Next: Initial Requirements

Abstract:

TRIUMF's SR User Facility required a slow control system for the VAX/VMS platform that would allow online database modification, quick implementation of new instrument drivers and integration into the existing data acquisition system. Most of the instrumentation in use at the SR User Facility have complex functionality and well-defined communications protocol. The CAMP (Control And Monitoring of Peripherals) Slow Control System has been developed to meet these requirements. The fulfilment of the initial requirements, and the upgrades made after over one year's use in the field will be discussed. The use of ONC (Sun) RPCs for communication, the Tcl interpreted language for instrument driver programming, and DECthreads for multithreading the server are explained.

The SR User Facility at TRIUMF consists of four beamlines, each using a VAX and single CAMAC crate for data acquisition.
