What is CAMAC

CAMAC is a standard design for a group of electronic devices. Unlike the traditional system, the CAMAC system requires very few interfaces. The following is a list of some of the components of a CAMAC system:

Electronic modules
According to CAMAC standards, each electronic device is built in the form of a flat module, with a certain size. Every module must be compatible with the ``controller.''

Controller
A controller is a special CAMAC module which serves as a common interface for a group of other CAMAC modules.

Crate
A CAMAC crate is a metal frame which houses a group of modules.

Dataway
The dataway is a group of fixed wires in the back of the crate. It provides signal paths from every module to the controller. It also provides power to every module.

A crate has 25 slots. Each module can occupy one or more slots. The controller is a double-width module, which occupies slots 24 and 25.

Each slot has a number of electrical connectors at the back. When a module is plugged into the crate, it is automatically connected to the power supply and to the dataway.
