Parallel Branch Coupler
The branch coupler (BC), under the control of an ECC, controls a parallel branch highway.
The branch coupler has an internal register, called the stock register, which keeps track of the status of the branch. The branch coupler knows whether the brach is on-line, and which crates of the branch are on-line. When the ECC sends a command intended for a crate on the branch, the branch coupler finds the C value, and checks the stock register. If the crate is on-line, the branch coupler sends the command down the branch highway.
The branch coupler provides a physical path for data transfer, so the data being send from a crate on the branch can reach the dataway of the system crate, and then the ECC.
