Equipment Failure

Like any other sophisticated electronic equipment, CAMAC equipment occasionally breaks down. However, when CAMAC equipment fails during an experiment in TRIUMF, it can be a nightmare. The experimenters cannot always reschedule beam time when the equipment is defective. An proton beam costs about $3000 an hour, and the money is totally wasted when the equipment becomes defective during beam time. If the equipment breaks down, experimenters must find the defective components and replace them very quickly. Therefore, it is important to have a way to diagnose the equipment quickly and easily.
