Parallel Branches
To make a system of crates, up to seven ``branches'' of crates are connected to one ``system crate.'' Up to seven crates can be put on each branch. Therefore, a maximum of 50 crates can be put together to form a single system (although at TRIUMF only five are needed on the average.)
The crates on each branch is connected together by a cable, called the ``branch highway.'' The crates are connected in a daisy-chain fashion. The highway comes out of the system crate into the first crate controller on the branch. It then comes out of the first controller, and into the second controller, and so on.
